NOVS and Veterans Prepare for Legislative Session 2013
Nevada Office of Veterans Services Executive Director Caleb Cage announced the next Veterans Legislative Summit will be held in Tonopah, NV on January 12, 2013 at the Tonopah Convention Center. This is will act as the follow up meeting to the Veterans Legislative Symposium held earlier this year, and will serve to inform veterans and advocates of the agency’s legislative accomplishments ahead of the 77th Legislative Session beginning in February.
“Our summit in May helped determine what veteran leaders from around the state viewed as important issues to pursue for this coming legislature,” said Caleb Cage, NOVS Executive Director. “Since then we’ve been researching, outlining and working with legislators on bill draft requests (BDR) in preparation. We’re excited to report back to veterans of our state on the accomplishments to date.”
Currently 14 BDRs have been made concerning veterans issues. They come from NOVS as well as legislators from both parties and from all over the state. The scope of requests includes senior citizen to Nevada National Guard and many other topics.
“The support has been great from the veteran community and sponsoring legislators,” said Cage. “I hope every veteran group will see the value in sending representatives to Tonopah in January.”
Representatives of veteran organizations throughout the state are invited to the one-day meeting to discuss and get updated of the proposed bills. “The better our message is articulated to our elected officials, the better they can understand the need and be able to act and assist veterans throughout the state,” said Cage.
